About Us

Our Mission

Liberty Missionary Baptist Church takes its inspiration from Ezekiel 34:16 “I will seek the lost, and I will bring back the
strayed. . .”

Oh how easy it is to get lost! With our cell phones and iPads, our 24-hour news cycles, there’s virtually nowhere to go for a moment of peace and quiet.

That’s where Liberty Missionary Baptist Church comes in. We provide a holy place of respite in the tumult of life. So come, put aside the cares of the week and find yourself in the presence of God.

Who We Are

Many faces; one faith. We are a diverse group of believers – bankers, musicians, social workers, teachers, public servants, business owners, parents – united by our shared faith in a loving God.

Our History

Liberty Missionary Baptist Church began as a mission of Central Missionary Baptist Church, Shreveport, Louisiana, in January 1964. Under the experienced leadership of Bro. I.E. Hollingsworth, Sr. thirty-nine (39) people joined in the mission endeavour. In March 1964 Liberty started holding services at the old Summer Grove School building. Then in April 1964, just four (4) weeks after the first official meeting as a mission, Liberty was organized into a New Testament Church.

The present location, 3075 Colquitt Road, was purchased in May 1964 after a successful rezoning hearing. Liberty paid $6500.00 for the three (3) acres of land. The deed to this property was transferred and recorded on June 8, 1964, in the Caddo Parish Court House. In November 1963 the church secured a loan with which to construct the first of the present buildings. The notes were signed by Bro. Hollingsworth, Sr., Henry N. Moore, Z.. M. Morgan and E. M. White and cosigned by seventeen (17) other men who were members of the newly organized church.

Liberty has completed four (4) building projects and one major remodelling of our present sanctuary. The first building was constructed under the leadership of Bro. Hollingsworth, Sr. who also led in the building of the present parsonage located at 3016 Burson Drive. In 1968 Liberty entered into another building endeavour under the leadership of Bro. Cloy Chapman. In 1978 Bro. Roy Chapman was the pastor when the Church began building the current sanctuary. Presently, Liberty’s property consists of three acres of land, a parsonage, an educational building, a fellowship hall and a sanctuary.

In fifty-one years, Liberty has had eight pastors, ordained eight preachers and seven deacons. Liberty has helped organize two New Testament churches; Mansfield MBC, Mansfield, Louisiana and Gethsemane Baptist Church in Saltillo, Mexico. Liberty continues to be a mission-minded church supporting missions worldwide.

Liberty has benefited from countless mountaintop experiences as well as those in the valley. Throughout this time, Liberty has held true to the Word and has been faithful to her worship and work for the Lord. Members have made great sacrifices of time, talent and money to accomplish many goals, all for the glory and honour of the Lord.

Liberty cherishes all the charter members as well as those who have joined in the fellowship since her inception. Each person has filled a definite place in the overall work of this Church. Today, Liberty continues to offer a hearty welcome to those who desire to learn the truth of God’s Word and continue the work begun in 1964.
